Cautiously Optimistic

Monday, November 26th, 2007

When you see polls like this, it inspires hope that the American people are beginning to remember the true Hillary. Even Reuters is picking up the story! I happen to be in the group that firmly believes Dems will hold their noses and vote for Hillary, so it’s always an encouraging sign to have quotes like the one below floating around the media:

Clinton, a New York senator who has been at the top of the Democratic pack in national polling in the 2008 race, trails Republican candidates Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson, John McCain and Mike Huckabee by three to five percentage points in the direct matches.

Score!

Self-Promotion

Every now and then, an inquiring reporter calls up the office and I’m able to give some answers about the direction of the GOP, the youth movement, or current events. I enjoy this because it gives me a channel as the representative of the organization to speak directly to thousands of people and, of course, I encourage all local and state CR leaders to seek out as much positive media attention as they can find.

Here’s a segment I did with XM Radio on their POTUS channel (dedicated to politicis in 2008 24/7) along with Chris Brooks from GWU and some of our friends across the aisle. You follow the link and then download the podcast for free through iTunes.

Plus, it’s fun to rag on the lefties with everyone listening…

CCCP T-Shirts

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

As I sit in the airport shortly after Thanksgiving, I am reminded that I am thankful for many things but that t-shirts with the CCCP and/or hammer-and-sickle logo on them are not among them. It is utterly disgusting to me that people (like the guy sitting in front of me) would wear these sick homages to not only a former enemy of the US, but also one of history’s most distinct examples of evil incarnate.

There are only two reasons for wearing such a shirt:
1) You are a true fan of the old Soviet Union, socialism, communism, or something along those lines, and you are expressing this love for hate in your apparel. In this case, there is nothing I can tell you that will change your already hollow heart.
2) You think it’s “cool” or fashionable to wear one of these tributes to torture.

If you are the latter case, I plead with you to read a history book and come to your senses. Che Guevara t-shirts can be included on the list of “fashion” items that common sense should not allow someone to wear.

In the meantime, I will have to keep looking at this person across from me who is either sympathetic to mass-murderers, or unwilling to think.

Here’s a site I found on Che (not the best, so pass along others if you have them) LINK

And on the Soviet Unions mass-killings there is this book (haven’t read it, but looks good) LINK

Another thought to ponder: if people wore Nazi shirts wouldn’t everyone justifiably flip out? The Soviets killed just as many or more people than the Nazis, and possibly more Jews as well.

One last thought: We have huge uproars all the time over the Confederate battle flag…and yet nothing out of our civil-rights leaders condemning the numerous celebrities sporting Che and Soviet Union shirts despite the gross violations of human and civil rights those symbols represent.

Rove (CR Alumnus) Speaks!

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

He passes along some words of advice to our party and candidates on how to beat the “unstoppable” Hillary. The central messages is this:

“Criticizing her unites the party, stirs up the unsettled feelings many swing voters have toward her and allows each candidate to say why he is best able to beat her. For now, that’s enough. But when a GOP nominee emerges, he needs to remember no Republican is as well known as Hillary. The Republican has room to grow in the polls as voters get a better sense of who he is and what animates him. Here’s what he needs to do.”

Shame, Shame, Shame…

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

…on you Democrats!

It’s exceptionally disgraceful that they would inject pure politics into a situation involving the very lives and safety of our soldiers. The Democrats have but days to change course to avoid putting stripping our soldiers of the tools they need to protect themselves from things like IED attacks in Iraq. HERE

Regardless of your opinion of the war, whether it was/is just, or whether we are winning or losing (talking to you Sen. “Dirty” Harry Reid), how can you rationalize denying funding to the troops to buy such basic things as bullets and jamming equipment for IEDS?! Sickening…

College Republicans in Memphis, TN for National Board Meeting

Saturday, November 17th, 2007

It’s over - took less than an hour for this administration’s first CRNC National Board Meeting to adjourn. The board quickly went through the proposed agenda. As promised by the administration during campaign season, we passed a constitutional amendment to amend Article Three, Section Six, Subsection Two by inserting the following after the last sentence:

The Budget and Finance Committee shall select one of its members to keep minutes of all meetings. The minutes shall be filed with the Secretary of the CRNC, and shall be made available to any members of the National Bard no less than three business days after a written request has been made. The request shall be submitted to the CRNC Executive Director, and shall include information regarding the document requested and the preferred method of deliver.”This amendment, proposed by Midwest Vice-Chairman Justin Smith, is just one of the many ways our administration is making sure we’re transparent and open about the inner-working of the College Republicans.”

Chairman Charlie Smith presented the 2007-2008 budget, which set ambitious fundraising and programming goals. More than ever before, resources will be sent out to the states and chapters through the Field Program, the new STORM network, and through OnePage Events that will allow chapters to become part of nationwide events all run on the same day.

As the meeting adjourned at 9:37 a.m., Chairman Charlie Smith and Executive Director Ethan Eilon launched into a presentation of the struggles and success experienced since taking office on July 15th. They also outlined our plan going forward.

Exciting and innovative initiatives are in the works for College Republicans across the nation!

Stay tuned to hear some of those highlights…
