Whammy! This is a great biographical ad for Sen. McCain. He has always been a driving force for reform, probably one of the most active reformers of government in our nation’s recent history, and this ads reminds us of who John McCain really is. It gets past the media spin, and the silly claims of Barack Obama. Everyone knows that John McCain is an independent crusader for change in our government. Watch it now:
A quick look at the Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News website reveals that despite Barack’s best efforts to change the subject away from issues by announcing his acceptance speech will be at Invesco Field, Senator McCain got all the attention for announcing his comprehensive plan to strengthen our sagging economy:
Some of you might recognize one of the faces in the ad as Daniel Bell, a former College Republican and a combat veteran in Afghanistan. He is on the right:
This is a fascinating article full of information everyone should know about Senator John McCain. Despite spending decades in the public eye, it seems that not many people know much about his family life.
For example, of the seven children Senator McCain has raised, three of them were adopted—two sons from his first marriage, and a Bengali daughter he and Cindy McCain adopted from Mother Theresa’s orphanage. That daughter, Bridget, had severe health problems as a child, and the McCain’s intervention saved her life.
The article also discusses the McCain family’s tradition of service to their country, saying:
Anyone can talk about “supporting our troops”; the McCains serve. McCain’s father and grandfather were respected American admirals. Of McCain’s four sons, three have gone the military route. One was a Navy pilot like his father, one enlisted in the Marines at age 17 and recently completed a tour in Iraq, and one is completing his education at the Naval Academy (raising the strong possibility that, for the first time in half a century, the United States will have a president with a son at war).
Looks like Obama supporters, especially young supporters, are a little disenchanted to learn that their primary minted messiah is little more then a chicago style, back room politician.
“I think there has been some erosion of the aura of excitement about a different kind of politician that Barack — they really fueled Barack Obama’s rise. It’s helped him with fundraising, given him these huge crowds at events. I’ve been talking to voters this past week for a story I’m working on, and I’ve had some people, young people who felt that Obama was the candidate of a generation, saying they’re distressed by some of the standard political moves that they’re seeing now.” – USA Today’s Susan Page on MSNBC’s Hardball, 6/2/08
With the 2008 election only a few months away, we want to get as many young activists ready for the fall as we can. It is important that College Republicans stay active and continue to recruit over the summer. Invite new friends to STORM and update contact information for existing STORM members, so that when the semester starts we are ready to hit the ground running.
To help you get moving, we are offering a great incentive to the top 40 STORM activists. The “STORM Top 40” will each win free housing in Minneapolis-St. Paul during the week of the Republican National Convention! The winners will have the exciting opportunity to participate in the Convention without the hassle and cost of finding and paying for a hotel room.
The winners will be determined by the number of points earned over the contest period. The contest will run from Thursday, July 3rd, from 9:00 AM EDT through Thursday, July 31st at Midnight EDT.
Well, by now we have all heard that Obama has broken his “pledge” (his word) to accept public financing for the general election if his Republican opponent does the same. John McCain has kept his end of the bargain, but Obama sees a more politically expedient approach and is going to opt out of the public financing system, becoming the first presidential candidate since Nixon to do so.
Of course, this starts raise issues about his trustworthiness. Obama has made a great many promises to his supporters throughout this campaign, some of which are on a much grander scale than committing to public financing. Already we see his supporters having to call him to task over his recent pandering to the political center on the FISA bill, which he now says he supports even after promising to never compromise his values on such legislation only months ago. MoveOn.org has been sending their millions of liberal members emails asking them to make sure Barack doesn’t continue to break promises.
But, I never really thought he would lose support over breaking his pledge to accept public finanicing. While it is certainly a window into his character, it’s sorta a inside-baseball kind of issue. Not many people in the public carry public financing as their #1 issue.
Wrapped up this weekends state chair training this morning. People for the most part seemed enthusiastic and energized afterwards. A lot of people are ready to get to work, and its really awesome to see. Thanks to everyone who came, and thanks for all you’re doing.
