Anyway, the College Repubicans in Minnesota did a masterful job of demonstrating to Minnesota voters (and evening news viewers) what Obama’s energy plans are: a couple of inflated tires and a tire guage.
While Barack Obama’s plan encourages everyone to inflate their tires, turn down the temperature, and turn off your lights early, John McCain is proposing an “all of the above” solution to our energy crisis: drill now, invest heavily in alternative fuels, and get off foreign oil.
Day 2 of the Guerilla Congress was today and the GOP did not relent in demanding that Dems return from their five-week vacation to allow votes on how to solve our energy crisis. While the Dems are out sitting on beaches of lying to constituents, many GOP Members have chosen to stay or come back to DC to continue the debate on offshore drilling and energy policy in general.
Here’s a video caught by College Republicans of Rep. Marsha Blackburn from TN speaking today on the House floor:
The below video covers the opening of the Washington (state) HQ for McCain as part of the Street Team ‘08 journalism effort from MTV. Notice anything? I’d say the average age of the volunteers manning the phones is somewhere around 20 years old and the guy they interview on screen is shown as 29.
The youth believe McCain truly means it when he says he will work to change the way Washington works, not because of some digengenuous lofty rhetoric, but because of his long record of doing so while serving our country. That’s why we support him for president over The One.
So there’s this argument going on now as to whether we can attribute the ongoing success in Iraq to the “surge” strategy or whether it was simply a product of the domestic Anbar Awakening. The basic premise of the question is way off because the Sunnis who stood up to become the Sons of Iraq (SoI) that began the Anbar Awakening never would have done so unless they had know the US was coming over the hill with reinforcements.
But the media seems to think that they have caught Sen. McCain in some sort of foreign policy flub because he contends that the SoI would’t have been sustainable were it not for the surge in US troops. They point out that the additional surge troops did not arrive in country until after the SoI had begun to stand up. However, this ignores some fairly important facts. We had announced well before then that we were recommitting to securing Iraq, and we had begun to implement the new strategy surrounding the additional surge troops before they arrived. Both of these things provided a pretty strong signal to the SoI that we weren’t about to abandon them (like Barack Obama would have done and still plans to do), and that they were safe to begin operations against AQI.
Not everyone in the media seems to have bought into the liberal line of attack however. Joe Scarborough over at MSNBC concludes that history is on McCain’s side:
Here are a couple of great videos/ads coming out in the last few days that I haven’t had time to post on (been moving apartments):
The Obama Iraq Documentary: Whatever the Politics Demand
Troop Funding Ad - Played during the run-up to the “Great Obama Overseas Adventure”
“Pump” Ad - Placing the blame for high gas prices where it belongs - on the shoulders of Democrats who oppose drilling for more oil WHILE also pursuing alternative energy sources.
The internet is starting to buzz with news of Where Is The Red? The Kentucky Enquirerhas a story about the WITR crew helping Republican campaigns in the northern part of the state. It includes an interesting quote showing how much the campaigns appreciate the help:
“We were excited by the opportunity to show this group of college Republicans around the 4th district and to have them volunteer their time by knocking doors and attending several county fairs in the area,” said Davis spokesman Jeremy Hughest. “As always, Congressman Davis is committed to running a grassroots campaign and we are happy to have these college students be a part of it.”
Where Is The Red was also featured on “Citizen Tube”—YouTube’s politics blog. Check it out here.
Well, we can fight back! Stand up with Republicans in Congress and sign the petition to tell the Democrats “No!” (like a dog about do it’s business on the carpet) by clicking on the widget below:
Scooped: Just when you think you’re the first one that thought of something BAM, the Weekley Standard beats you to it…thanks Mr. McCormack!
Now, this clip has mostly to do with immigration and expecting immigrants to learn English (Obama adds that Americans should expect to begin learning Spanish), but that’s not the part of the clip I want to focus on here. About two-thirds of the way through the clip, Obama starts talking about Americans traveling to Europe and not knowing the native languages, and he says this:
It’s embarrassing when Europeans come over here, they all speak English, they all speak French, they speak German, and then we go over to Europe (laughter) and all we can say is ‘Merci Beaucoup.’ (Laughter ensues) Right?!”
Here’s the clip:
Now, after all the problems the Obama campaign has had with not being proud of their country, don’t you think Barack would be a little bit more careful with his words? I guess it’s just hard to hide a distaste of the average American when you are an elitist like Barack Obama. It’s quite obvious that John McCain has been, and always will be proud of his country.
